Hand Painted Collection

This project was completed while studying Cert IV in Textile Design & Technology at RMIT.

The brief was to create a collection of hand painted textile designs inspired by a film.
I chose to base my collection on one of my favourite films, Disney’s Fantasia 1940

Mood Board

I was really inspired by the low lit scenes with bright sparkles and highlights as it makes everything feel so magical and special.

Colour Swatches

For the final designs I used a combination soft pastels and gouache paints. for the gouache I had to mix the colours from basic primary colours to get the desired colour pallet.

Collection Development

Drawing a lot of inspiration directly from the piece: The Sugar Plum Fairy - Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky
I began by testing drawing and painting techniques that would capture the aesthetic of the film.
In my development work you can see use of watercolour, soft pastels and gouache.
